30-Hour Famine – Volunteering To Fight Against Hunger
Friday, February 17th through Saturday, February 18th 2017

Each year, our Youth Group kids volunteer to participate in a 30-Hour Famine event to help fight against hunger, locally and globally.  The kids pledge to raise cash donations from friends, family, and neighbors supporting the fight against hunger.  All of the participants also voluntarily go without food for 30 hours – in order to experience a small example of what it is like to go hungry.

During the overnight lock-in event, the kids participate in games, creative projects, and discussions on what they can do to help in the fight against world hunger.  After spending a chaperoned overnight stay in the church, the kids form small groups and canvass the local neighborhood collecting canned foods and dry goods to be donated to the local Lacey Township Food Bank.

After the food has been collected, the kids participate in the delivery of the collected goods to the local food bank.  At the end of the 30-Hour Famine event, the kids are treated to a supper prepared for them by the parents of the participants in the church Fellowship Hall – as a final celebration providing recognition and thanks for them helping those less fortunate!
