SUNDAY’S 10:00 AM
Our Sunday worship gatherings are the center of our life together. Worship is also at the heart of our relationship with God, both as individuals and a community. In worship we focus on God: on hearing a message based on the Bible, on prayer, and on the sacraments. Of course individual Christians can do many of these things in private. However in worship we ground our life as a community in a corporate experience of God.
What To Expect On Sunday Morning
Worshippers are welcomed at the door (We enter through the red door off the parking lot.) by greeters who will give you a bulletin or what we call the “order for worship”. The order for worship includes the liturgy for the day. Included is the News In The Pews that contains news of church activities and a list of people we pray for each week.
Some of our prayers are “responsive” and some are said in “unison.” We believe that worship is participatory in nature and not a passive experience. Presbyterians love to sing. The hymns and songs we sing are traditional and contemporary. The FRPC Chancel Choir helps us worship God through the ministry of music. Each week the choir sings an “Anthem” that helps us focus on the theme for the day. The FRPC Chancel Bell Choir rings one Sunday each month. In addition KidzPraise! and KidzChimes! worship with us from time to time.
An important part of our worship is the reading of the Bible and the sermon. The pastor chooses the text for each week’s reading. The reading is usually based on the Revised Common Lectionary, a collection of Bible readings that cover a three year cycle.
Holy Communion is celebrated at the 10:00 a.m. service on the first Sunday of each month. All are invited to participate in this sacrament. You will be served a small piece of bread and a small cup of grape juice representing the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
The worship service lasts about one hour. After the 10:00 gathering you may want to join friends at the Heart Rock Cafe, in the fellowship hall. Here you can enjoy coffee, food, and meet some new friends.
